Goddess Rādhā is the daughter of Vrishabhānu and kalāvati, she lived in Barsānā village. She is dearest to Lord Krishnā. She is also believed to be an incarnation of Goddess Lakshmi and the Goddess form of Lord Krishna. When Krishna wanted to love himself, Krishna incarnated in the form of Radha.

Meaning: Radha worships Krishna and he worships her and each other. Saints always say that both are equal in every way.

Brahma Vaivartha Purana Volume 4 (Sri Krishna Janma Khanda) Chapter 52

rashabdocharanadev spheeto bhavati madhavah dhashabdocharatah paschaaddhavatyev sasambhramah।

Meaning: In this verse Lord Narayana tells Sage Narad - By merely pronouncing the word 'Rā', Madhava's ( Krishna) ecstatic jubilation fully blooms by merely pronouncing the word 'Dhā', he starts running fast behind the devotee. With awe and reverence.

'ra' sabdam kurvatas trasto dadami bhaktim uttamam 'dha' sabdam kurvatah pascat yami sravana lobhatah

Meaning: Lord Sri Krishna declares): "The moment I hear the sound 'Ra' from anybody's lips, I offer them My supreme love-devotion. But the very next moment when I hear the sound 'Dha', I completely lose Myself and become intoxicated in Radha name. Because of My great craving to hear the name of My beloved, I run after devotees who chant Radha-name."

radhety evam ca samsiddha ra-karo dana- vacakah

dha nirvanam ca tad-datri tena radha prakirtita

(Brahma Vaivartha Purana shi Krishna jnamh khand)

Meaning: The holy name of Radha is complete in perfection thus: the syllable 'Ra' denotes charity, gift-giving, and the syllable 'Dha' denotes liberation. Thus, she who mercifully grants liberation in the painless eternal state is called 'Radha'. (Brahma Vaivarta Purana, Sri Krishna-Janma-Khanda)


bhavanam dhavanam rase smaratyalinganam japan । ten jalpati sanketam tatra radham sa ishvarah ॥

rashabdocharanadbhakto rati muktim sudurlabham । dhashabdocharanaddurge dhavatyev hareh padam ॥ (Brahma Vaivartha Purana Volume 2 , Chapter 48)


Meaning: (Mahadev says to Goddess Parvati ) Maheshwari! My Lord Shri Krishna remembers the running act of radha in Raas, that is why he calls her 'Radha', I guess so. Durga! A devotee attains the most rare salvation by merely pronouncing the word 'Ra' and by pronouncing the word 'Dha' he definitely runs to the feet of Shri Hari.


sa radheti sada hrdi sphuratu me vidya-para dvayaksara

Meaning: The name of Sri Radha, which consists of two divine syllables and is the manifestation of Para-vidya (ultimate truth), always shine in my heart.
